As a rehab specialist, an injury skiing that wouldn’t heal, forced Irene Lyon [@IreneLyon] to consider mind-body work. That led her to become a Feldenkrais practitioner herself. Years later she found herself searching for more answers, which led her to study somatic experiences with Peter Levine.  

 

The premise of somatic work is - what we experience gets stuck in our tissue and the way we think and connect with people. 

 

Since then, she developed online programs and has helped close to 10,000 people in 90 countries learn to become their own medicine by reteaching them how to be with their body and their stress response.  

 

Through research of her programs, people have been able to increase self-worth, feel less isolated, and decrease a range of symptoms.  

 

 

Understanding how stress gets stored in our bodies and supporting our bodies to resolve it, allows us to heal from past trauma. When stressed, we go into a freeze response to protect us. The trouble with that, is the flight or fight hasn't been resolved. Whatever emotion we haven’t been allowed (or allow ourselves) to express, can block the nervous system. That impacts the autonomic nervous – from hormones, digestion, cell cleaning mechanisms, and more.  

 

Depending on your history and predisposition, it will express differently in different people. It can cause anything from migraines, to autoimmunity, to anxiety and depression. The symptoms are triggered from something that occurred and you have been stuck in protection mode ever since.  

 

 

In this interview Irene and I connect about skiing in the Pacific Northwest, and about having joint hypermobility. I share that a year ago, due to physical and emotional stress, I developed an inflammatory condition that required surgery. Yet still, it was clear that I also needed to address the stress in my body to truly address the root cause.  

 

If we never have a chance to reset from stress we were exposed to, it is stored in our bodies and can cause long-standing health issues.

In this episode, Dr. Doni Wilson, host of How Humans Heal, describes what it takes to find the highest quality and most efficacious supplements. Dr. Doni breaks through the sales and marketing to show you behind the scenes of DoctorDoni.com and Nature Empowered Nutritionals.  

 

Ultimately, it’s about giving your body the nutrients, herbs and other support from nature to help you recover from depletions and disruptions caused by stress.  

 

We are stressed as humans. Stress decreases our ability to digest food, causes leaky gut and imbalanced gut bacteria. It also makes us susceptible to infections, including viral infections, as well as low serotonin and GABA. These can be addressed clinically with nutrients, herbs, homeopathic remedies and peptides. Hormone imbalances can also be addressed.  

 

 

It is essential to use high quality supplements at effective doses. This is not something you have to figure out on your own. That would require hours and hours (years even) of research and trials. And they are not supplements you will find at the regular store. 

 

That’s why I do what I do. Using my training, with a doctorate degree from Bastyr University, which is not a weekend course or online training. It was a 5-year, post-graduate, in-person degree program and residency which I completed 22 years ago.   

 

Nor should you need to figure out what to take together or apart, or potential interactions. That’s all part of my training and continuing education. It’s also what I teach naturopathic students who train with me.

I know it can seem too good to be true. When we are dealing with chronic illness and feeling lost in the medical system, it can be hard to believe that solutions exist. And I’m not saying this is the right fit for everyone. It is always important to know your body, your preferences, your allergies and sensitivities, and your medical history. 

 

 

I absolutely believe customizing your supplement protocol based on your individual case is imperative. That’s why I offer group online programs and one-on-one consultations with me so that you can get access to the information you need, and testing to understand the imbalances in your body, so that you can pinpoint exactly what your body needs.  

 

It is not about taking a bunch of random supplements. It is about understanding human physiology, biochemistry, clinical nutrition, herbalism, homeopathy, and research about how to support the body to heal.

Fatigue is not the same for everyone who experiences it. It can be a complex web of causes which requires a systematic approach in order to avoid aggravations. 

 

In this episode of How Humans Heal, I discuss helping patients recover from fatigue with Dr. Evan Hirsch, [@EvanHirschMD] a functional medical doctor who experienced Chronic Fatigue himself.  

 

He pushed aside the shame and guilt of not feeling well enough to keep up with his life and practice to identify 33 causes of fatigue. His mission became addressing those 33 causes of fatigue for himself and now thousands of other people in his online program.  

 

95% of people he sees have thyroid function that is not optimized. And most of them have adrenal dysfunction. And I agree – I see those same patterns in my practice.  

 

It’s important to address all the causes of fatigue, not just one or two, in order to achieve complete resolution. We also want to address the root, of the root, of the root, of the cause of fatigue.   

 

When we dig deeper, we find that stress, toxin exposure, and chronic infections need to be addressed to ultimately resolve fatigue.   

 

 

As Dr. Evan explains, it often comes down to deficiencies and toxicities. Deficiencies such as nutrients, neurotransmitters, mitochondrial function and lack of good food, sleep, and movement. Toxicities such as the 500 chemicals we are exposed to before we walk out of the house. It can also be mold toxicity, tick-born infections, viruses, parasites, yeast, bacterial infections, allergens, adverse life events, negative experiences, and electromagnetic exposures.  

 

The body ends up shutting down in what is called the Cell Danger Response. Which is why it can feel like a pile-up of health issues and multiplying symptoms.  

 

Dr. Evan has figured out a 4-step process to assess and address the underlying causes of fatigue in a way that allows the body to heal most efficiently.  

 

It doesn’t start with detoxification. It’s important to prepare the body and carefully open the detoxification pathways so that we don’t make you feel worse in the process of addressing infections and toxins.  

 

 

At the same time, it’s important to know that healing is a process of taking a few steps forward and a couple steps backwards, individualizing along the way, as we learn what your body needs in order to heal.  

 

As practitioners, we are really “course correctors” along the way, to guide you to know how to pivot and work through what comes up as you rebalance and heal.  

 

Regaining your energy is absolutely possible, and it is important to keep in mind that it will be gradual over 12 to 24 months. You have to play the long game.  

 

As someone who has experienced and recovered from fatigue myself, and helped thousands of patients with stress, toxins, and infections, as discussed in this episode, I can tell you that Dr. Evan’s approach makes complete sense and is extremely thorough.

Is it really that important to have optimal cortisol?  

 

Even if your blood work says your cortisol is in the “normal” range?  

 

And even though you don’t have Addison’s disease or Cushing Syndrome?  

 

Yes! I would say a resounding yes based on all the research I’ve read and thousands of patients I’ve helped.  

 

Having optimal cortisol, as well as adrenaline, levels means…

Dr. Sue McCreadie [@drsuemccreadie], a pediatric physician who has shifted into helping women breakthrough their health challenges, is hosting a summit called “Mama, Own Your Health” starting June 13, 2022.

After losing his wife suddenly to a rare neuro-degenerative disorder (CJD), Dr. Greg Eckel completely changed his specialty (after 20+ years in practice) to brain regeneration.  

 

He wrote a book – Shake it off - about an integrative approach to Parkinson’s Disease and created a program he now offers in his clinics in Portland, Oregon and Park City, Utah.

All neurodegeneration is on the rise, and at younger ages. It is estimated that by 2030, 50% of all adults over the age of 65 will have some form of mild cognitive impairment.  

 

There are a couple medications that can decrease symptoms for some forms of dementia, but otherwise, conventional medicine has very few options to help.

Dr. Eckel, on the other hand, sees dramatic changes in his patients, with the return of memory, humor and functioning.  

 

He sees his role and his work as helping patients to become whole again. That’s who we are – we are love and source. We leave the door open for that to occur. Separation is an illusion. 

 

The nervous system is able to regrow and come back online. Given the right support, our bodies (and brains) can heal. 

 

 

In this episode we talk about:  

 

-The gut-brain connection and how important it is for healing the nervous system 

 

-The ecosystem in our gut is essential for our health and our neurotransmitters 

 

-The role heavy metals and other toxins play in neuro-degenerative conditions 

 

All the treatment options he uses to help heal the nervous system: PEMF, acupuncture, bio-energetic resonance, peptides, herbal therapies, stem cells, and laser therapy… 

 

 

Dr. Eckel figuring out that by using a laser to activate stem cells and then to direct the cells to where he wants them to go, he is able to stimulate the growth of healthy tissue. 

 

He believes that the future of medicine uses frequency as medicine. Lasers use frequency. And our cells and mitochondria emit a frequency as well.

Both of my parents have experienced a stroke in the past 1.5 years.  

 

And I was not prepared. That’s why I recorded this episode of How Humans Heal – to help you be prepared in case your loved one experiences a stroke.  

 

A stroke is when either blood clot or a bleeding blood vessel decreases blood flow to the brain. It is the 6th leading cause of death in the U.S., but a stroke doesn’t always cause death.  

 

For those who survive a stroke, they are likely to experience decreased mobility and long-term disability, especially when over the age of 65.  

 

The best outcomes occur when a person is able to get medical assistance quickly. And the brain CAN heal from a stroke. It is a slow process, but there are many ways we can support and facilitate that recovery.  

 

This is exactly why I want YOU to know the common symptoms of a stroke. In this episode of HHH, I share about the symptoms my father experienced, such as choking and change in behavior, and how they differed from the symptoms my mother experienced, vertigo and nausea.  

 

And I share about the conversations I am having with my father’s caregivers to facilitate his recovery. Plus the foods and activities I’m choosing for him.  

 

 

The brain heals when we:  

 

-Decrease inflammation 

 

-Listen to music 

 

-Do what we love 

 

-Spend time with loved ones 

 

-Decrease stimulation 

 

 

More than anything, I want to emphasize that when we are most stressed, such as when taking care of a loved one, is when it is MOST important for us to take C.A.R.E. of ourselves.  

 

Often when we get caught up in stress, we lose track of our own selfcare. And that’s how we end up burned out.

Dr. Sue went from working for an advertising firm in Manhattan, to completely changing her life by becoming a naturopathic doctor.  

 

At the same time, she faced her own chronic health challenges, including Lyme disease and severe migraines. It was by addressing a past trauma that completely changed her health. She finally understood why “she is the way she is” and how to support herself to heal.  

 

If you don’t remember before the age of 7, that is a sign of an early childhood trauma. Working with a shaman, she felt supported to discover the wounds that had been hiding her past. 

 

If we don’t know what is making us feel stuck and sick, we could be experiencing physical and emotional pain without realizing there is something we can do to change it.  

 

Dr. Sue processed her trauma using EMDR, EFT, cranio-sacral therapy, homeopathy, flower essences, and drainage therapy. And now Dr. Sue guides her patients to recover from their chronic illness by addressing trauma. She starts by talking through their life chronologically, looking for events and experiences that happened starting from a young age.  

 

 

In this episode, Dr. Sue and I also talk about how: 

 

-There can be fear to do this work.  

 

-We tend to turn to alcohol, food, and other substances or choices in order to avoid looking at our trauma. 

 

-We have to feel safe to feel the feelings we haven’t felt. 

 

-Often, with a history of trauma, gentle approaches are better, and actually essential. 

 

-It is common to be so sensitive to even treatments that are helpful. 

 

-

 

When looking for a therapist to help you, it is important to choose a therapist who is trained in trauma recovery. There are many forms of therapy to help get to the core of trauma. We can recover from trauma. The nervous system can heal. It’s worth putting in the time and effort to do this work.  

 

-

 

This is such an important topic to me. In the book – Master Your Stress, Reset Your Health – I talk about the effect trauma has on our health, and how my Stress Recovery Protocol has been successful in helping me and my patients resolve trauma.

I believe it is essential for each of you to know your stress type. 

 

That is one of the five stress types I have identified in my clinical experience and research.  

 

These stress types are based on cortisol levels – measured at four different times of day in urine or saliva – and adrenaline (norepinephrine and epinephrine) levels.  

 

These tests are not done in a standard doctor’s appointment. And they are not covered by insurance. Currently, these tests are available through my office for patients and program participants.

After growing up with chronic skin issues, my friend Dr. Trevor Cates [@thespadr] healed her skin by taking a holistic approach. And she found herself wondering – “Why wasn’t holistic medicine presented from the beginning?”

In fact, hormone imbalance is one of the most common causes of skin issues. There are many hormones potentially involved. Not just sex hormones, but also cortisol, thyroid, melatonin, and insulin. Our hormones rule our health in a lot of ways, says Dr. Cates. 

 

 

In this episode, we discuss things you can do to start balancing hormones and healing your skin, including: 

 

-Avoid toxins and fragrance in your personal care products 

 

-Choose organic food 

 

-Get plenty of fiber and nutrients 

 

-Sleep and stress management

The vagus nerve is the longest nerve in our bodies, connecting our brain to our digestion and vice versa. It manages signaling for bodily functions, so we don’t have to think about them! It handles digesting food, breathing, heart rate, and more.  

 

Here’s the key, the vagus nerve does all of this as part of (75%) our parasympathetic nervous system. That is our “anti-stress” system. 

 

The opposite of the parasympathetic response is the sympathetic response, which is what we think of as the fight or flight system. 

 

When we are stressed, or exposed to stress, the sympathetic system engages to help us respond. And at the same time, it turns off (or decreases) certain functions that are not so necessary while we are responding to stress.  

 

 

The issue occurs when we are under constant stress. The way I think about it is…the vagus nerve gets stuck in a stress response mode. This can look and feel like:  

 

-Digestive issues like heartburn, nausea, bloating, and pain 

 

-Shortness of breath, dizziness, and feeling faint 

 

-Racing heart and palpitations 

 

-Anxiety and overwhelm 

 

-

 

So how do we help our vagus nerve to recover from stress? I think of it as “taming” the vagus nerve. 

 

There are many ways, which I discuss in this episode AND in my new book, Master Your Stress Reset Your Health.  

 

One of my favorites is to take a deep breath. When you take a breath, you are signaling to your vagus nerve to turn on the parasympathetic nervous system and turn off stress.  

 

And the amazing thing is that we can choose to take a deep breath and give this signal to our bodies at any moment, even when stressed.

In this episode of How Humans Heal, I share about my theory of health and healing, and my newest book, Master Your Stress, Reset Your Health, which is due to release on May 3, 2022. 

 

 

There are many misconceptions about stress and what to do about. So much so that I am even hesitant to say the word. Sometimes simply the word stress causes us to stress more! 

 

So how can we NOT stress about stress? How can we be healthy and thrive even when exposed to stress?  

 

This is the question I have asked myself… throughout my whole life. And I want to share with you what I have discovered. 

 

-Stress is part of being human 

 

-You’re going to have a response to stress – that is a given 

 

-We need to find a way to have compassion for ourselves as stressed humans 

 

-And figure out how to support ourselves under stress 

 

 

How do we give ourselves enough support to recover from stress? 

 

I believe what we are lacking is anti-stress. We have a deficiency of anti-stress. 

 

That is when symptoms happen. Anxiety, depression, sleep issues, cancer, fertility issues, digestive troubles, infections, etc. 

 

It is not just about age. We can’t blame all our health issues on age and throw in the towel, so to speak. 

 

I’ve definitely had times of more stress than anti-stress.  

 

I had migraines for over 20 years. My migraines taught me – if I don’t have enough stress recovery, I’m going to get a migraine. 

 

I didn’t want to be reliant on a medication.  

 

I wanted to look deeper and figure out how not to have a migraine.  

 

The same can be true for what you are experiencing in your health.  

 

The irony is that the solution is not to overdo anti-stress either.  

 

We are so willing to push harder, do more, and put in more of an effort… but too much of anything can result in more of a stress response. 

 

So we have to outsmart stress and really we need to outsmart our own stress response. 

 

It is in the gentle-ness that we get the most stress recovery.  

 

In the process of recovering from stress myself, I identified a 3-phase.  

 

If we skip one of the steps, stress recovery backfires. 

 

We need all 3 phases to become resilient to stress. But it is not exactly the same process for all of us. 

 

As humans, we all have a stress response that involves cortisol and adrenaline, but in actuality it is different for each of us. 

 

Since our response is individualized, our treatment needs to be individualized as well. 

 

To be most effective about your stress recovery, you need to first know how your body responds to stress so that you can then give yourself the correct treatment to recover. 

 

For example, your cortisol could be too high, or too low, at different times of day. 

 

And your adrenaline could be too high or too low. 

 

I caution you not to assume that we all have the same response to stress.  

 

And not just your immediate response to stress, but how stress affects you over time. 

 

When you are in stress mode, and experiencing symptoms, we need to know your cortisol and adrenaline levels.  

 

This is what I refer to as your Stress Type.  

 

Don’t just guess. It’s important to treat based on your stress type in order to effectively recover from stress because the treatment is different for each Stress Type. 

 

Even once you know your Stress Type, it is important to understand the concept of hormesis in order to optimize your recovery. 

 

Hormesis is a concept that tells us that your body will respond to change. A small change can create a beneficial effect. Too big of a change ends up triggering a stress response.  

 

This is why in our stress recovery we need to harness small changes that result in a beneficial effect in your body.  

 

At the same time, we need to not overdo it, or else we will find ourselves right back where we started.  

 

By implementing small incremental changes based on your Stress Type, you are increasing your chances of recovering from stresses of all types more quickly and efficiently.  

 

I want you to be successful becoming resilient to stress and improving your energy, sleep, focus, mood and how you feel in your body.  

 

I know it is possible to recover from trauma, loss, overwhelm and the stress we are exposed to as humans. And to be able to feel good doing what we feel passionate about.

Have you noticed mold in your home, basement or attic? Have you noticed mold where you work?  

 

Mold exposure is more common that we realize, and it doesn’t just cause allergic reactions. Mold releases mold toxins that penetrate into human bodies and cause significant disruptions and damage.  

 

Everyone is affected differently by mold toxins, and some not at all, so it can be confusing and difficult to identify and address.

“Women are not “mini men” and cannot fast the same way men do. But women can benefit from intermittent fasting when we make modifications based on our hormones.” 

 

Cynthia Thurlow [@cynthia_thurlow] nurse practitioner and CEO of Everyday Wellness Project shares from her experience as a practitioner and woman going through perimenopause how mastering intermittent fasting changed her life and health.  

 

 

In this episode of How Humans Heal, Cynthia shares insights from her new book, Intermittent Fasting Transformation. She says that instead of being overfed, we need to be strategically fed.  

 

Women need more options besides prescription medications and surgery. Instead of just taking another pill or hormone for a symptom. We can use food choices as powerful ways to address symptoms. By making small, sustainable changes in the way we feed ourselves, we can address inflammation, insulin resistance, cardiovascular disease, and other health issues caused by “metabolic inflexibility”.  

 

-

 

The bulk of us are not metabolic healthy, Cynthia says.  

 

Women are given reflux medications, anti-depressants, sleeping agents, and estrogen replacement. This creates a slippery slope and women are likely to feel wrecked by the time they hit perimenopause. In the sandwich generation, women are responsible for so much. We as women are care takers, but who is taking care of us.  

 

Cynthia is wanting to influence women’s lives in a sustainable way, and that is why she wrote her book.  

 

 

In this episode and in the book, Cynthis talks about:  

 

-As estrogen decreases, insulin sensitivity decreases 

 

-It shows up as fatigue, anxiety, weight gain, and menstrual irregularities  

 

-It used to be that restricting food and exercising more would work for weight loss, but in perimenopause, that stops working 

 

-She is not anti-carb; she encourages women to consume the right carbs 

 

-Intermittent fasting is free and flexible 

 

-Align food intake with chronobiology – our internal clock. Don’t eat within 3 hours of bedtime. Eat when it is light outside. 

 

-

 

We are so focused on fertility years, and then women feel invisible and unrepresented in perimenopause, and yet we spend half of our lives in that state. Over 35 to 40 years old, indiscretions of snacking or having a glass of wine is more likely to be an issue, increasing inflammation and blood sugar levels. 

 

We need to be eating less often and eat the way our bodies are designed to thrive. We would not be here as a species if our bodies could not go through periods of food accessibility and scarcity, and to use different types as fuel sources. Our bodies are not designed to be in a surplus of food all the time.  

 

When you go to eat a snack, ask yourself, am I really hungry? Or am I stressed or bored and either need to take a walk or go to sleep. 

 

Use of a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) – which is currently by prescription – is one of the most impactful things you can do. It can allow you to experiment with different foods to find out how your body responds to a certain meal. Being aware of what your blood sugar is doing can be hugely influential to understand how stress, travel, and certain foods affect you.  

 

 

As hard as it can be to admit to ourselves that foods we love are an issue, when we do, it can allow us to make drastic changes in our health and wellbeing.

Neurotransmitters are messengers in the nervous system. They affect our mood, energy, focus and sleep. So if you are feeling tired, anxious, brain fog, distracted, and/or having trouble with sleep…it could your neurotransmitters! 

 

Examples of neurotransmitters are serotonin, dopamine, GABA, norepinephrine and epinephrine. They can be categorized as calming or stimulating to the nervous system. Optimally we would have a balance of calming and stimulating.  

 

When we are exposed to stress of various types, which we are as humans, then our nervous system and neurotransmitters respond to help us deal with the stress. And, depending on our genetics and stress exposure, our body metabolizes neurotransmitters uniquely. So one person may run out of serotonin faster than another person.  

 

 

Our neurotransmitters are made from amino acids, which come from protein in our diet. If we run low on a certain neurotransmitter, we can take more of the precursor amino acid for that neurotransmitter to support the body to make more. 

 

It is important, however, not to just guess what your neurotransmitter levels are. It is better to do a urine test, which is a specialty test I offer to my patients and in my programs, to measure your neurotransmitter levels. With that information, I can guide you on exactly which amino acids, and other nutrients, in what order and dose, to rebalance your neurotransmitter levels.

Starting from the name of it – MTHFR – there is so much confusion out there about what it is and how to address it, that I decided to cover it in this episode of How Humans Heal.  

 

For those who know me, you know that when I find out something can be affecting our health, the I research it and figure out how to address it fully. That is the case with MTHFR. I, too, have 2 MTHFR gene variations and at the time I found about it, I had one of the most common health issues associated with it – migraines.

Trying to conceive (TTC) a pregnancy can be confusing and overwhelming. Dr. Aumatma @Holistic_Fertility_Expert, my friend and colleague, and I talk about all things involved, including mindset and relationship with one’s self and body.  

 

Naturopathic medicine has so much to offer women and families that is not offered in standard fertility care.  

 

With naturopathic medicine, we have the ability to empower women by identifying why they may be struggling to conceive, looking at lab results and see what is happening and helping them understand how to embrace their body and support it to achieve pregnancy.  

 

It is not uncommon for reproductive endocrinologists to say scary things to women, especially over age 40, about the likelihood of pregnancy. Dr. Aumatma asks: “How can we – doctors – have such little belief in the body’s ability to do what it is designed to do?” 

 

“Instead of judgement about the past, let’s look at the reality of what is happening with your body at this point and figure out a plan to get you there. I’m a stand for women and couples to have babies when they are ready. It’s okay to have children later in life if that is what we are choosing. We can be empowered around it.”

It’s like going on a journey. The better women feel about themselves and in their bodies, the more trust they are gaining in knowing their body knows how to do this, so they can move out of the way and let it do that.  

 

I think of it as creating an environment of safety for your body, mind and spirit so the ovaries get the signal to do their thing. 

 

Dr. Aumatma explains: The ovary is the overachiever! It wants to produce and will go above and beyond, but what is needed is to not overachieve. We need to help women get to the place of believing they are perfect the way they are, then things magically transform. 

 

Age and AMH (anti-mullerian hormone) levels are two of the biggest myths of fertility. AMH came about as an observation that when the number dropped below 1.06, women had poorer IVF outcomes. It doesn’t mean anything about whether or not you will have a child. There are many other ways to support fertility that can work even with a low AMH.  

 

Dr. Aumatma encourages women to let go of the pressure on themselves and find the path that works best for you. It’s okay to say – we don’t want that, or we do! It is your choice.  

There is a big gap in how women are being supported with TTC. Dr. Aumatma and I believe everyone should have access to the tests that can help and the support that is needed as soon as you are ready to start preparing for pregnancy.

Love yourself more by giving yourself support to recover from stress.

Expert in dermatology, oncology, and naturopathic medicine, Dr. Michael Traub [IG @mtraubnd] shares about his career and his recent recovery from invasive skin cancer.  

 

Michael explains how being a nonconformist led him to find the kind of medicine he always wanted to practice, which has allowed him to provide more time and support to his patients. He’s been practicing as a naturopathic physician on the island of Hawaii since 1985. 

 

His own medical history includes acne and superficial radiation treatment, being a triathlete, and a lot of sun exposure. He has had 40 or 50 skin cancers over the years. Two years ago, when his dermatologist suggested treating a lesion on his face, he asked to first biopsy the lesion. The biopsy revealed basal squamous cell carcinoma with perineural invasion. That is an ominous diagnosis when a cancer that doesn’t usually invade, has invaded the nearby nerve.  

 

-

 

In this episode, Michael describes the path he took from surgery to radiation therapy, and then immunotherapy, to treat the cancer.  

 

-Don’t treat a lesion on the skin until you know what it is. 

 

-How to navigate cancer treatment and fear of death

-Importance of getting a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th opinion

Michael says he is healthier now than he was at the time of his diagnosis with cancer because it was a wake-up call that motivated him to change the things in his lifestyle that were not conducive to his own health and well-being.

I just spent 10 days in a single-room cabin with mesh walls in the Peruvian Amazon. 

 

That means I was immersed in nature. Listening to the sounds of the insects, frogs, birds, animals and raindrops. Looking at the amazing diversity of green leaves of all shapes and sizes. Swimming in the creek and climbing the waterfalls. Drinking tea of plants intended to heal the mind, body, and spirit. Eating the most simple foods - potato, rice, quinoa, cucumber, carrot, and some eggs. 

 

What I can tell you is that as much as I’ve known that nature is healing… now I see to a greater extent how the colors, sounds, patterns, and plants in nature help humans to realign within ourselves and with a coherence only found in nature. 

 

We lose contact with this powerful aligning force in our busy daily lives interacting with technology and overstimulated by mechanical sounds, lights, and erratic activity.  

 

-We are thrown off our circadian rhythm. 

 

-We develop distorted views of reality. 

 

-We even lose ourselves in constantly reacting to everyone and everything else. 

 

 Taking time to reset is so important. It’s essential. 

 

-

HPV is a very common virus. Most all of us have been exposed to it in our lifetime. And yet it can be shocking to receive results that show that HPV is positive. It’s shocking because there are no symptoms – so you wouldn’t have a heads up – and it can cause cancer. 

 

It’s also shocking because your doctor may either tell you to come back in 6 months to a year, and that seems like a long time when you’ve just been told you have a virus that causes cancer, or the doctor may say that you need a biopsy or additional procedures in order to check for abnormal cells.  

 

The standard medical approach does not include options to help you fend off HPV once you have it. They can really only remove abnormal cells or cancer if it occurs. But HPV can cause abnormal cells again and again.  

 

Meanwhile, I’ve been helping women to successfully fend off HPV, heal the cervix (for ASCUS, CIN1, CIN2 and CIN3), and prevent recurrences for over 21 years.

Women often struggle with weight gain and difficulty with blood sugar levels, especially during perimenopause. When Dr. Bonnie Nedrow [@drbonnienedrow] experienced this herself, she thought – “there has got to be a better way.” 

 

And that is when she decided to keto-adapt. Now she has freedom from blood sugar dips.
